French biathlete Julia Simon has been suspended from competition for six months, but the 29-year-old will be able to compete in the Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina next year, the French Skating Federation announced on Thursday.
Simon, who won the 2023 World Cup title and has 10 world championship gold medals, was also fined 30,000 euros ($34,986) by the federation’s national disciplinary committee.
This decision comes after she was convicted of fraud and theft of her credit card last month. Simon was given a three-month suspended prison sentence and a fine of €15,000 ($17,493.00).
The ban prevents her from participating in competitions or training courses organized or permitted by the FFS or the International Biathlon Union (IBU).
The Socialist Forces Front added that it reserves the right to appeal the decision to the Federal Appeals Board within seven days of notification, which is an avenue available to both parties.
